Solaris to Linux migration forum: The Solaris to Linux Migration Forum is a collaborative web support forum where customers, partners, administrators, developers, and IBMers can post questions, concerns, news, or tricks they've learned to collaboratively support migrating from Solaris to Linux on IBM hardware and software platforms.
Support: Email support is offered only for bug fixes, questions where the documentation included with the migration tools are unclear, and cases where users have questions regarding errors or odd behavior. Please do not use email support without first reading through the documentation included with the toolkit.
Example unsupported question: "How do I install the migration kit? How do I use the source code tool?"
Example supported question: "The documentation doesn't explain how to do X, can you clarify how this works?"

FAQ
Q: What is the tool meant to do?
A: The migration kit can be used to examine your C or C++ source code, and shell scripts, for things that will need to be modified or replaced when moving the code to a Linux system. It looks for API problems, Endian issues, and shell scripting uses.
Q: Can I run this tool on Linux? Solaris?
A: Yes, the v2 tools are now designed to run on Linux. The v1.0 tools did not run on Linux and required a Solaris/SPARC workstation or server. As of v2.0, the migration kit will only run on a Linux platform and IBM no longer offers a version that runs on Solaris.
Q: Will this tool change my code for me?
A: No, this tool will examine your source code and try to identify places that you (the developer) should change the code. It does no code modification on its own.
Q: Will this tool tell me how hard it will be to change my code?
A: The migration kit attempts to provide an indication of whether an issue it flags is of difficult, medium, or low technical difficulty. It does not do project or work estimation.
Q: What do I do if I have problems using the migration kit?
A: Please check the documentation as the first source of help. The development team spent a considerable amount of effort ensuring the content is complete and accurate. If you should discover a bug, or have an issue the documentation does not cover, please use the email support. Otherwise, we ask that you contact your IBM representative.
Q: What do I need to run the migration toolkit?
A: The Solaris Migration Toolkit is supported for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 or newer, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 or newer. Java is required, as is Perl-Tk.
